Managing Your Paver Patio Installation Crew.

There are many different factors to consider when selecting and managing your patio installation crew. The factors that we will consider for this learning site are the factors that will create a better profit and efficiency, and the ones that will make you the most money in the least amount of time. Some of these factors include:

1. Size

2. Experience and Training

3. Equipment

1. Size:

The size of your paver patio installation crew may depend on a job by job basis. I have found that a crew of three workers is ideal for residential patios and walkways. More workers may need to be used on larger jobs or jobs that cannot use a loader to move mass quantities of brick. If there are more than three workers, one is often without something to do. When building patios the space is often limited, and once the progress has reached a certain point, often so is the work. This small size also limits the number of trucks that the crew will be occupying.

2. Experience and Training:

Obtaining an employee that is trained in paver or stone work is often the greatest challenge in beginning work with paver patios and walks. There are a number of very qualified, trained individuals in the work force to help your transition into hardscapes and patio building. With one trained patio builder, you will only need to have general laborers on the crew to assist him or her with the grunt work. Training to build with pavers is also easy. The manufacturers have made pavers that easily fit together, thus making it very easy to assemble a paver patio.

3. Equipment:

There are a few pieces of equipment that you may need to purchase when getting into paver. The two largest pieces of equipment are a brick saw, pictured above and the plate tamper, pictured below. This equipment is very easy to use and somewhat inexpensive.
